Five Bible Verses to Help with Fear of Darkness
Following the passage of world record-setting Hurricane Melissa, a lot of households, including mine, have been without power for weeks. Children who had become accustomed to sleeping with night lights are now surrounded by total dark except for the beautiful starry arrays above.
My own offspring was no different, and had gotten even more skittish since being told at school about the legend of Annie Palmer. We were camping downstairs in the living room to pool resources but Offspring still had to trek upstairs for their own items.
After bucking and stalling, I asked Offspring who is God? Offspring calmed down immediately and was able to retrieve pajamas for the night. Knowing that there is a Bible verse for every situation, this inspired me to look up some relevant passages to help Offspring cope with their new normal. Maybe they can help you and your loved ones too.
2 Timothy 1:7
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind."
Psalm 27:1
"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?"
Psalm 91: 5-6
"You shall not be afraid of the terror by night...nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness."
Isaiah 41:10
"Fear not, for I am with you... I will strengthen you and help you."
1 John 4:4
"He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world."
